The project aims to provide an academic contribution on which measures are suitable for promoting more sustainable digital practices on the individual level, based on a solid theoretical basis that enables the generalization of insights beyond a test domain (e.g. video streaming). Practical implications can be derived from this and applied to encourage actual behavioural change in the population and thereby reduce the GHG emissions of individual digital practices.
Background
The digital sector likely causes more GHG emissions than global aviation. This topic has been largely overlooked by society but if climate goals are to be achieved, it is inevitable to bring issues of the environmental impact of digital practices more into the focus of society.
Reseach Questions
- How can awareness of the environmental impacts of digital practices be raised at the individual level?
- How can behavioral change towards more sustainable digital practices be achieved at the individual level?
Project Aim
The aim is to prepare an inter-disciplinary application of the community to suitable funding sources for the sustainable digital practices project which aims to develop and test strategies that can raise awareness among the population and promote more sustainable digital practices.
